The Split Entrepreneurship Center and the Student Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics in Split have been busy lately organizing the sixth edition of the Hack4Split hackathon – this year in its green edition!

And everything is ready for the upcoming #Hack4Split2023 weekend! 😀

This year’s edition of the hackathon will be held as part of the University Green Digital HUB project. It will take place this upcoming weekend, on April 15th and 16th, at the SPINIT incubator in Split with the support of the social entrepreneurship company Ensoco and Split Tech City.

Hack4Split 2023 is marked by a green theme and a focus on sustainable solutions, to encourage the transition toward a green and digital economy.

Therefore, this year’s Hack4Split wants to encourage young people to become active members of their local community, to become familiar with the needs and problems in their community and environment, and to engage in solving them.

UN’s Sustainable Development Goals that guide every Hack4Split

The applications are concluded and the teams are ready for a weekend filled with hacking away some fantastic sustainable solutions in a relaxed atmosphere and teamwork spirit. Supported by expert mentors, they will be developing digital and green innovations and, in the end, win one of the many prizes.

Here are this year’s Hack4Split teams:

  • Eased – a platform for the reduction of single-use plastic in restaurants
  • Rags to Dresses – a project to create a clothing brand that would enable the reuse of old clothes through an attractive redesign
  • Dalmatian Roots – an interactive map that will show producers of olive oil, wine, and other Dalmatian products in the region
  • Sortify – an application for identifying recyclable waste that includes awards for recycling
  • BeeBee – an IoT solution that allows you to control the conditions inside beehives
  • Smart Library – autonomous libraries made of 3D-printed recycled material
  • QuickRecycle – small containers for PET waste with a mobile app that rewards users for recycling
  • CROPET – a platform for adopting pets, finding pet-friendly areas, reporting animal abuse, etc.

And the program of this year’s hackathon looks like this:

  • Friday, April 14th
18:00 – Hack4Split Premeeting as part of April’s edition of the “Locals’n’Nomads” meetup
  • Saturday, April 15th
    9:00 – Hack4Split Day 1 begins
    12:00-14:00 – mentoring consultations
    14:00-14:30 – lunch
    14:30 – Hack4Split continues
    20:00 – end of Day 1
  • Sunday, April 16th
    9:00 – Hack4Split Day 2 begins
12:00 – work&development part of the competition ends
13:00-15:00 – presentations of all the projects in front of a jury panel
    15:00 – Hack4Split 2023 winner announcement and closing

Interestingly, as a green-oriented hackathon organized through the University Green Digital HUB project, Hack4Split is taking place this year at three locations – at partner universities in Spain, Germany, and Croatia.

The main goal of the project is to strengthen the digital, green, and entrepreneurial skills of students, university startups, and university employees.

Other than that, Hack4Split also aims to strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions in the field of teaching the skills needed for the digital and green transition.

The University Green Digital HUB project overall spans 24 months and is co-financed with funds from the Erasmus+ programKey Activity 2: Partnerships for cooperation (for the field of higher education).

We wish a lot of luck to all the teams of this year’s Hack4Split! 😀

May their innovative solutions contribute to making Split a greener and more sustainable city! 🙂

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
