Held this past weekend at SPINIT Incubator and organized by the Split Entrepreneurship Center and the Student Business Incubator together with partners, this year’s Hack4Split was another success!

The teams tried to find and implement socially useful solutions for the well-being and progress of our local community while taking advantage of modern technology.

Therefore, Hack4Split’s fifth edition brought together a large concentration of talented individuals with good ideas!

This resulted in excellent projects with the potential to be applied in various social and economic spheres:

  • Nerthus: a web afforestation platform that connects the business sector and civil society organizations to reduce the CO2 emissions we create as a society.
  • Srce: a virtual diary that facilitates the work of associations working to improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups.
  • Mirna: a web application to support victims of all forms of violence.
  • SeaID: an application for recognizing marine organisms.
  • Evala: an interactive digital guide that offers an authentic view of Split.
  • Fairchain: a voting system based on blockchain technology.
  • HealthPlus: Improving the medical system with an application for booking and communication between patients and doctors
  • Fish4All: a digital fish market that optimizes the sale of fresh fish and seafood
  • Pitaj studenta: a forum application for easier access to information about the faculties of the University of Split
  • PY-BO: IoT solution based on Lego building elements whose purpose is to develop knowledge for all age groups by encouraging creativity and problem-solving.

At the end of the hackathon, interesting prizes were awarded to the best solutions. The team Pitaj studenta – whose members are mostly still in high school – won further education and training in business and IT for their efforts and proactivity during the hackathon. This will serve them as further incentive to keep developing their knowledge and skills.

The HealthPlus team showed the greatest progress and dedication during the two days of the competition and was awarded the title of Most Productive Team, while the Nerthus team won the award in the category of Best Design.

And finally, the top 3 spots for projects developed during Hack4Split were awarded to:

  1. Evala and Fish4All
  2. PY-BO
  3. SeaID

In addition to the standard hackathon program, a workshop titled “Is e-mail marketing dead?”, held by Martina Šepić, the director of Webpower Adria, gave the participants insight into email marketing and how to use it to increase sales and manage customer relationships.

In the end, the organizers would like to offer special thanks to the sponsors who provided prizes for the best teams and supported the organization of the hackathon: Dobar tek, Wolt, OTP bank d.d., Nova Eurospectra, The Daltonist Craft Bar, The Works Coworking, SmartNinja Croatia, Mirakul Education Center, ZIP line Split, and Breaktime Nautical.

Also important to note is that Hack4Split was organized as part of a project co-financed by the European Solidarity Force of the European Union and the Central State Office for Demography and Youth.

We’d like to congratulate the prize winners, all the other competing teams, as well as the organizers!

Hack4Split proved once more that Split has a bright future ahead!
