SPLIT FOR UKRAINE: How can we help?

28.02.2022.

How is it possible that in 2022 a war is raging on European soil?! Most of us have been wondering exactly this in recent days while we read and watch the devastating news from Ukraine.

For many of us, the very mention of the war in Ukraine brings back painful memories and repressed emotions about the war we experienced as children. Is it really necessary for some other children to experience the same fears and traumas we’ve been through?

One of us

If we have friends, colleagues, and acquaintances who live or come from this war-torn country, our experience of the whole situation becomes even more intense.

Did you know that one of the most active members of the Split Tech City community is a Ukrainian native?

Andrei Zinkevich is one of the five members of the Administration Board of our association. Although busy being a successful entrepreneur, he is one of our most active volunteers. Always ready to listen, give advice, and support.

He was born in Ukraine and spent most of his life in Poland, from where he moved to Split with his family more than three years ago, immediately becoming a part of our community. He also shared his life and business story in our podcast series.

What can we do?

It has been difficult seeing him these past few days without that usual gleam in his eyes. Not only has his homeland been attacked, but many members of his family, friends, clients, and associates are still in the most affected areas of Ukraine.

This morning he mentioned to us that yesterday he spent the whole day collecting humanitarian aid that was sent to Ukraine last night, and we asked him:

How can we help?

We might not be able to do much, of course, but in situations like this one, even small things mean a lot and have the potential to accumulate. That is why we have decided to use our platform to share the information and advice Andrei has given us.

Together we can do a lot!

The Association for Ukrainian Culture in Dalmatia CVIT operates here in Split. They launched a campaign to raise money to purchase necessary supplies and equipment to be sent to their homeland. Below you can find the information if you are considering donating:

ASSOCIATION NAME: Udruga za ukrajinsku kulturu u Dalmaciji CVIT
IBAN: HR0523900011101084029
ADDRESS: Gundulićeva 26a, 21000 Split

If you would like to have more information about them or the ways you can help them, you can contact them via their Facebook Page, their email udrugacvit@gmail.com, or via phone – 091 221 4444.

The Facebook group Hrvati za Ukrajinu (Croats for Ukraine) has been launched. Here you can find useful information if you want to join humanitarian and volunteer efforts, or if you can offer accommodation, transport, etc. to incoming Ukrainian refugees.

Help Ukraine is a platform launched by Andrei’s colleagues. On this platform, you can find a list of vetted sources that are accurately and timely informing about the situation in Ukraine, or about how we can all help. From donating to the military or civilians, over helping refugees, to signing petitions – help2ukraine.org has everything you need to know!

The Split Tech City team wishes to thank you all for any kind of help you can offer!
