Split Tech City is a community composed of well-intentioned and progressive companies, startups, associations, initiatives, institutions and individuals. Together we encourage and develop the IT sector of Split and the surrounding region.
Support our communityWe are delighted by the innovative ideas of Croatian youth, especially when enterprising minds develop those ideas into startups and join the Split Tech City community as a company.
That is why we are extremely pleased to present you our new member – the digital bookstore dReader!
Everything about this promising startup was revealed to us by its founder, Josip Volarević.
Josip explained to us that dReader develops the application of the same name –
a platform for discovering, publishing, trading, and collecting digital comics.
The application itself is built on the blockchain principles of decentralization and transparency and uses the Solana blockchain as its foundation.
The product, Josip reveals, was created according to his idea. Namely, in a short period, he received two contracts for the development of a token-gated application for reading digital comics: if the end-users have an NFT -a non-fungible token – they can read the corresponding comic.
“Upon the third request I received for the creation of such an application, my Herzegovinian flair for business kicked in!”
He did the initial market research and noticed trends that point to a favorable moment for creating such a solution.
“Then I started a partnership with two clients – Adam Jeffcoat and Karl Mioč. We gathered a wide team of developers, designers, and authors, as well as gained the trust of the Solana Foundation, from whom we received the impetus for the realization of the project.”
In addition, they won two hackathons and attracted the attention of investors with their solutions.
The product will soon enter the semi-open alpha stage and in about 2 months will be ready with a public beta version.
The team consists of seven people of various profiles: full-stack developers, comic book authors, Emmy award-winning animators, etc.
Geographically speaking, they are located in Croatia, although part of the team is from America, Asia, and the rest of Europe.
Their plans are to build a premium product with a simple user interface and the ultimate digital collecting experience, become the flagship product on Saga mobile (like the Kindle pre-installed on Apple devices), and attract top comic book creators and audiences who will appreciate them.
“The biggest challenge for us, like most other startups, is to find a profitable business model and prove the famous product market fit. We believe that we are on the right path, so we only have to not give up and keep our focus on achieving our vision and mission.”
Regarding involvement in the Split Tech City community, Josip points out that they believe that every company is stronger if it has solid roots in the local community.
“Split Tech City is a logical step when opening a tech company!”
Welcome, dReader! 😀
