The piece of news we’re bringing you today is about Blank’s The Lokals!
This is how the Blank team briefly described the “NFT Splićani” (Splićani = people from Split): “We are very proud to share The Lokals with the world! This innovative project brings together the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), blockchain technology, and captivating storytelling.
The Lokals is a collection of 5,000 unique NFTs that live inside an animated film. Our role on this project was to develop smart contracts for the collection, mint page front-end, and execute the project launch.”
That’s the project in a few words, but the Blank team shared much more with us, so let’s hear the story about The Lokals! 😉
Consisting of 5,000 distinct NFTs generated on the Ethereum blockchain, The Lokals take form within an immersive animated film. Each NFT from this remarkable collection will play a significant role in The Lokals Short Film and receive on-screen credits, ensuring their individual contribution is recognized.
In addition to the animated film, there are exciting plans to expand The Lokals’ presence beyond the digital realm.
The project launches its very own Metaverse, allowing NFT holders to explore and interact with The Lokals‘ universe in a virtual space. Furthermore, The Lokals aims to offer a range of physical merchandise, including unique clothing items, enabling fans and collectors to showcase their support in the real world.
The Lokals NFT collection started by creating a series of stand-alone NFTs which represented local people from the city of Split and its surroundings. The art pieces later evolved into a collection of 5,000 NFTs generated on the Ethereum blockchain, and each token has a minting price of 0.1 ETH.
The characters showcase the Mediterranean during the 80s, the New Tendencies Movement, punk music, rebellion, and above all, the pursuit of individuality, with scenes set in different parts of the town.
You can find your everyday Lokals The Townies in Split 3, the center of the movement. The Workers live and do lots of manual labor in the shipyard Shkver. Then, there are The Athletes who are always ready for action and live in the sporting center Koteks.
Of course, there are some popular town beaches such as Bachvice where The Beach Boys enjoy the sun, play the local sport picigin and try to pick up women. Finally, The Artists have their own meeting point, the underground club The Cube (Kocka).
All of these unique personalities live together in the Mediterranean town of Split, a melting pot of ideologies, characters, and lifestyles!
In the past decade, the Blank team has been exploring, questioning, and creating new ways of reality with VR, metaverses, AR, and more. The Lokals will be exploring just how deep that rabbit hole can go as the film is set in the metaverse and in the hands of the AI, which appears just as human as any other film protagonist.
The Lokals film is being produced by a multi-award-winning studio PrimeRender Studios, with over 70 awards from some of the biggest animation film festivals in the world.
The award-winning directors and producers Veljko Popović and Milivoj Popović along with the creative force Božo Balov will work on bringing this project to the big screen. They will be sharing their progress and engaging with the community through storyboarding, animation tests, ideas, and more.
Every NFT from the collection of 5,000 will be a part of The Lokals Short Film, and all will get on-screen credit. While some roles are on-screen in front of the camera, others will be working hard behind it in production.
This project has been long in the making. As already mentioned, the collection has evolved from stand-alone characters by talented artist Božo Balov who shared them with the community. Very soon they were on the front pages of various social media platforms and soon after they were minted and sold.
This led to the creation of the whole The Lokals universe, inspired by Split.
The studio came up with a collection of NFTs, each consisting of a still image and animation in gif and mp4 format. The Blank team was happy to hop on the project and develop a mint page fronted using Next.js and React technology, build smart contracts for the collection in Solidity, and finally, take on the responsibility of launch execution.
Marko Marinović, chief technology officer (CTO) and co-founder of Blank joined the project as one of the advisors. The minting date will be announced as soon as everything is ready for The Lokals to come to life.
One of the most exciting aspects of the project will be The Lokals Metaverse. The Blank team, as well as the rest of us, can’t wait to see how far they push the technical limits and explore the art of storytelling!
