09.10.2023.

Split is a city of startups throughout the year, but it was never more so than last week when, from October 4th to 6th, another edition of the Startup Europe Regatta took place. Two conference and expo days wrapped up with a final day of sailing make this particular event a great combination of three splendid things: sun, sailing, and startups!

Even though we love both – the sun and the sailing – the most important of these three are the startups.

Startups who, once again, had the chance to be in the spotlight right on Split’s Riva for the Startup Expo, also had a chance to compete at the startup pitch competition and win valuable prizes.

On top of the insightful conference content in the talks and panel discussions that were part of the program and the always useful networking that took place on land during the two days and at sea on the third day.

Quite a few benefits to being a part of the Startup Europe Regatta, right?!

The first day of the conference was opened by Frane Šesnić on behalf of the organizer and Damir Brčić on behalf of Digital Dalmatia as the co-organizer. They were joined by the representatives of the City of Split, the Split-Dalmatia County, and the President of the Republic of Croatia giving added recognition to this startup event.

After the official opening, the program, led by Peter Hopwood, continued as planned. It included several interesting talks and engaging panel discussions with guests who are experts in a variety of startup-related fields. Another exciting part of the program belonged to the two sessions of startup pitches of the competing startups.

At the startup expo on Riva, we could learn about them in a relaxed way, but in the Cellars of the Diocletian’s Palace, the pressure was on because they had only 60 seconds to awe us!

In the end, 27 teams pitched their ideas in front of the audience, as well as investors, partners, and startup founders from various parts of the world. After the excitement of the competition, the first day of the Startup Europe Regatta was concluded with networking in a relaxed atmosphere.

The second day brought more inspiration in the form of the official program led by Ana Vlahov. The schedule was once again packed and brought us relevant panel discussions on various topics with expert panelists. The highlight of the day, however, once more belonged to startups.

As it should at a Startup Europe Regatta!

The winners of the pitch competition were announced. After 27 pitches, these three top startups claimed a total prize of €8000:

The day once more concluded with the magical ingredient of all innovative events – networking!

And, for the Startup Europe Regatta to truly be a regatta, after the conclusion of the two-day conference, the final day was reserved for sailing in Split’s waters. Blessed by the fantastic weather, all the participants had a great time.

In the end, we would like to congratulate the organizers – RaST Development Agency and Digital Dalmatia – on putting together such a great event for the local startup ecosystem, and wish all the startups smooth sailing in entrepreneurial waters!
