Festive Locals’n’Nomads: drinking good coffee and supporting a worthy cause!

The last “Locals’n’Nomads” meetup of this year brought a lot of joy! We gathered together at D16 Coffee to celebrate together this past year and to help the D16 team with their charity event for Down21 Association.

First to arrive were our high schoolers – the ones who served everyone a lesson at the previous “Locals’n’Nomads about dancing in the rain. They are truly becoming active in our local community, and we were really happy to see them again!

They were also the ones who had the most fun taking photos with the D16 polaroid camera!

We also had some digital nomads in attendance that came to Split from various countries in the world, as well as locals who came along to support the D16 charity event. Hopefully, together we managed to make a difference, no matter how big or small!

Thank you all who attended and donated to the Down21 Association!

We are happy we got to finish this first “Locals’n’Nomads” year on such a positive note in the festive atmosphere of D16 Coffee where Petra from the D16 team took great care to make the drinks extra special for the evening.

Once again we managed to provide a variety of different people with a chance to meet and connect, which was always the main idea behind this particular event.

Aside from trying to gather locals and digital nomads together with “Locals’n’Nomads” meetups, this year we did our best to provide additional information that might be helpful to digital nomads on their journey through Split, Croatia, and beyond.

From the initial overview about all that makes Croatia’s digital nomad residence permit, over details about the application process for that permit from the USA, to tips and tricks about the application process here in Croatia.

Even though we, as Croatian citizens, cannot apply for said permit, we did our best to gather all relevant information for you, knowing how important it is to be well informed about this particular topic and how challenging it is to sometimes find information in English about Croatian things.

That is also the reason why we did not limit ourselves to information about the digital nomad visa only but tried to help our digital nomads out with information about day-to-day life in Split, the status of coworking spaces in our city, how to keep yourself healthy while on your digital nomad journey, as well as a few pointers on where to find good coffee combined with a productive working atmosphere.

Along the way, we also got the chance to share the digital nomad stories of some nomads who chose Split for a variety of reasons: to explore the city and its surroundings like Steve, to take advantage of Splits athletic side like Rachael, or to enjoy all the culinary wonders our region has to offer like Barbara and Marques.

We at Split Tech City want digital nomads to feel welcome in our city. That is why we will continue to create content with nomads in mind and keep doing our best to provide Split’s digital nomads with a community they can belong to no matter how long they plan to stay in our lovely hometown!

So, travel safely and see you next year!

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
