Split Tech City

30.04.2021.

Following its basic postulates – encouraging entrepreneurial awareness and skills among young people – the Student Business Incubator at the Faculty of Economics in Split organizes the second edition of the international student startup competition called STup!2021, with the support of the City of Split, University of Split, SEA-EU, and WorldChicago.

For the first time, the six university partners of the Alliance of the European University of the Sea (SEA-EU) are involved in the organization of this event. Therefore, at STup!2021, in addition to students from Split and other partner countries, students from the Universities of Cadiz, Brest, Gdansk, Kiel, and Malta will participate in the startup competition for the first time. The idea of the European University of the Sea (SEA-EU) is to encourage an entrepreneurial mindset, multilingualism, as well as the development of transversal skills that are encouraged by these types of events.

Hybrid form of this year’s edition

Although last year COVID-19 prevented the competition from taking place, this year the competition is being held on June 18th and 19th in a hybrid form. The competition itself will be held by combining live presentations at the Faculty of Economics and online participation via the Zoom platform. The number of live participants will primarily depend on the epidemiological situation and recommendations.

As the name of the competition suggests, it puts importance on students, startups, and the city Split as a venue. It is important to emphasize that this is a competition organized by students for students, in the desire for mutual support in the realization of an entrepreneurial endeavor.

This event aims to enable competitors and visitors to connect, improve the entrepreneurial culture among students, and exchange ideas and experiences at the international level. During two days of competition, the city of Split will be a stage for innovation, new technologies, and ideas, with which university projects will try to secure the attention of renowned experts, potential clients, and investors.

An opportunity for presenting startups on a global scene

In recent years, Split has been steadily building an image of a city that is not only associated with tourism but the overall prosperity as well. Any development drives innovations, and innovations are often associated with youthful imagination, ambition, and courage to step into a better future. It is this first step towards a better tomorrow that university startups from various parts of the world will look for “under the golden sun”, as one of our famous songs sings about Split. The main goal of STup! has always been to provide support to student startups and allow young entrepreneurs to present their work on the global startup scene.

Aside from the competition itself, the accompanying STup! conference will bring together local and international tech startups, entrepreneurs, representatives of incubators, accelerators, as well as companies and investors. Therefore, in addition to competitors, investors and accelerators will also present themselves with programs aimed at young innovators and startups.

Grab your opportunity!

The program of this year’s event, as well as the application form for applications that are open until May 15th, can be found on the official website of STup!2021. You can also follow all activities and updates via the social network accounts of the Student Business Incubator.
