After we brought the Women In Tech meetup back this year with editions in March and June, the time has come for its December edition. We do hope you’re as excited as we are! So – basics first!

This edition of the Women In Tech meetup will be held on Thursday, December 7, at Smartspace coworking with the start time being 18:30. You can sign up to attend via this form!

So far this year we had two interesting and engaging panel discussions, so we’re changing it up a bit with this edition: there will be a lecture and always inevitable and awesome networking.

Our chosen lecturer for this edition of Women In Tech is Suzana Špika, Head of People Operations at Postindustria and mentor at the Croatian Psychological Chamber, who will deliver a lecture titled: “Self-Reflection in a World of Perfection: Breaking the Mold”.

The reason we chose this topic is because we noticed some issues women face in the workforce which were mentioned by the panelists at the previous two editions of this meetup. So, proactive as we’re trying to be, we chose to address these issues and act on them in collaboration with Suzana.

Her lecture will be tackling the issues of imposter syndrome, self-rejection, and perfectionism.

Here are some of the problems related to these three issues that we heard from women who were part of the previous two Women In Tech events this year:

  • Inability to recognize own value and contributions: “What we do is valuable, we should not minimize it by thinking we’re not good enough.
  • Lack of belief in oneself and doing things despite fears and doubts: “Done is better than perfect!
  • Working on ending the vicious cycle of female enmity: “It was hard for me, so I’ll make it hard for you. We need to stop that.
  • Working on taking up space and using your voice: “You can talk to me! I know as much or even more than my male colleague.
  • Challenging the existing societal norms: “It has always been done this way doesn’t mean it should continue to be done this way.
  • Society’s view of women as primarily mothers and how this affects women in the workforce: “Stop asking us about plans on having kids and focus on skills and knowledge we can bring to the table instead of our gender!
  • Not selling yourself short: “And to all women and girls looking to work in tech: send that job application! Even if you’re at 80% of the requirements, send it in – your eagerness to learn and improve will make you catch up quickly.

If you wish to feel empowered, come to the upcoming Women In Tech Meetup with Suzana! Sign up and see you at Smartspace on December 7 at 18:30! 😀

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
