Yesterday’s Women in Tech Meetup in Split, co-organized with Technology Park Split, brought two really good talks and lots of questions from the audience later (always a good sign, right?). 

Vickie Brennan shared what it really takes to build a company like Jedsy, where drones are used for transporting blood transfusions. Solving a real, high-impact problem, they don’t rely on outreach; clients come to them because the value is obvious. 

She highlighted why Jedsy looked for talent in Split in the first place: the city has an exceptional pool of skilled people, and how that decision proved right.

She also gave a refreshing perspective on hiring in such a new industry. There are no “seniors” in drone piloting yet, which means the ideal candidates are those open to feedback and constant learning. 

Gamers, it turns out, perform surprisingly well, and Croatia’s tourism ecosystem is becoming an unexpected training ground for future drone pilots. Vickie’s journey, from Silicon Valley to Split eight years ago, added a personal layer. 

It’s clear she didn’t just build a career here, but a genuine connection to the city and its people.

Tanja Krasić continued the conversation by breaking down digital transformation without the usual buzzwords. She pointed out how differently it’s perceived across companies: as strategy, as technical burden, or as operational pressure. This misalignment is often the real reason transformations fail. 

What stood out most is that success rarely comes from big, ambitious plans, but from smaller, tangible improvements and having clear ownership from the start.

When asked how they measure success, she gave a clear answer: they track specific KPIs throughout the process, proving that their methods work.

We were also especially glad to see more and more male colleagues in the audience each time. The point of Women in Tech has never been to exclude anyone; quite the opposite. It’s about inclusion, leveling the playing field, and creating more space and opportunities for women as speakers, while keeping the conversation open to everyone.

We wrapped up the evening at Caffe Bar Quantum, with soparnik, drinks, and networking while watching the sunset. If that’s not networking the Split way, we don’t know what is.
