The first-ever “Locals’n’Nomads” meetup took place yesterday evening. Set in the always lovely Bene Bay in Marjan Park Forest, it allowed us to take part in some good old-fashioned networking over cold drinks while enjoying the view of the summer sunset.

Our initial idea behind the organization of this meetup was to offer Split’s digital nomads an opportunity to meet the members of the local tech community. With more and more digital nomads choosing Croatia as their go-to destination, thanks in part to Croatia’s digital nomad visa, the meetups that gather digital nomads together are not uncommon. Organized by coworking spaces or bars and coffee shops, this type of event is now a relatively regular occurrence in our city.

However, we wanted to offer an additional value to the standard format of a digital nomad meetup by mixing in the locals, too – both those that are born and raised in Split, as well as those who came from other countries and chose Split as their place to live.

Judging by the reactions of the attendees and the positive atmosphere throughout the evening, we have succeeded in our intention.

This first “Locals’n’Nomads” meetup was attended by a well-balanced group of locals and nomads. We still have to keep the number of attendees at public gatherings reduced. Nevertheless, we find positives in everything, so this smaller number of people just meant better connections overall because you had the opportunity to meet everyone instead of meeting just a few people that would be the case with a larger group.

We purposely kept the vibe of the meetup very casual, so some even took our advice and enjoyed a swim in the sea in the name of the work-life balance we all aspire to have here in Split. Overall, people have enjoyed themselves and that is exactly what we wanted.

Encouraged by the positive feedback from last night, we can promise you this will not be the last “Locals’n’Nomads” meetup.
