After we celebrated rounding up the first 10 episodes, it is podcast time again here at Split Tech City. This means you get to meet another one of Split’s internationals!

Matthew Hairsnape is the co-founder and CEO of Triend, an app that is community-based, personalized, decentralized, and described by its initiators as the anti-TripAdvisor. It is also an app that had its launch right here in “the most beautiful city in the world” – more commonly known as Split, Croatia. 🙂

The reason behind Triend’s launch in Split is intertwined with Matthew being the guest of our podcast and can be summed up with three words – love for Split: “It’s true! The entire founding team has a lot of love for Split and we have already spent many years here. We have seen the tourist boom in the past ten years and also some of the issues that come along with it.

Split is the best place because, while it is evolving as a tourist destination, it can also offer so much more.

From our experience, a lot of people come to Split but miss so much of the city if it is not right in front of them. There is no strong tech platform that can improve their stay here and that lets them really experience all the amazing things and the variety Split has to offer, off the traditional tourist paths.

By launching Triend in Split, we can offer the chance for visitors and digital nomads to discover more of the city. And also benefit the local businesses that aren’t as visible because they are not located within the standard tourist hotspots.”

Aside from his work, we also talked with Matthew about his life in Split and all that he admires about this city. However, no spoilers will be found in this short accompanying article to our interview with him – you’ll just have to watch it!

That being said, one thing we would definitely like to highlight is Matthew’s answer when we asked him about the way he sees the quality of life here in our lovely city. This is what he had to say:

“I don’t think it can get any better than this!” 😀

Aside from praising Split, Matthew shared some more insightful things with us, so watch the entire interview we did with him! 😉

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
