Encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset in the land of no opportunities

…in three simple steps! 😀

Yes, yes, we’re sometimes funny on Fridays. But, let’s just talk seriously for a bit about this topic, shall we?

You will often hear this particular complaint about Croatia. And, while no country on this planet is absolutely perfect, and Croatia has its own things to improve, we do not believe everything is as dark and gloomy as mainstream media and Debbie-Downer-type of people would have you believe.

Yes, entrepreneurship is challenging. Entrepreneurship in Croatia has its own obstacles. But it’s not impossible!

Many Croatian entrepreneurs have proven it can work. Many expat entrepreneurs have proven it can work in Croatia when it didn’t in their home countries. So, why do we complain then? Some would say it’s all in our heads, it’s about the mind. Or mindset, if you will. And Split Tech City is kind of into working on that.

After all, a community made of so many varied companies has to have an entrepreneurial mindset!

Community

An entrepreneurial mindset that is nourished through sharing of knowledge and skills by harnessing the power of networking. Meetups, conferences, workshops, lectures, panel discussions – you name it, we organize it. All with the intention of fostering the connections within our local community.

Most entrepreneurs do not succeed completely alone. The business world is not a walk in the park and getting any help you can get will always aid you in the long run and reduce the time it takes to achieve success with your intended business.

Networking is critical for any new entrepreneur and community is a powerful tool that will help you get out into the world even more which makes conducting a business a lot easier.

Bit by bit, a big enough community of like-minded people can influence the overall mindset of a society.

We’re not saying everyone should become an entrepreneur, but everyone should be aware that it is a possibility and that having a steady job working for the same employer for 40+ years isn’t the only socially acceptable option. Just sayin’!

Youth

Interestingly enough, Split’s youth already recognized this and some mindset shifts are already visible.

That’s why they made the NEXT Conference happen! 😀

Working with and encouraging our youth is also another way some inert habits in a society can be changed for the better. That is another reason why we will always try to offer motivational and inspirational content to young people – be it the aforementioned NEXT, or any of the other Split Tech City events they’re more than welcome to attend.

We’re always thinking about how we can include them in the community and encourage them to think outside the box. And it makes us happy to see them actively participating in our tech community more and more!

Festival

The final nourishing ingredient in this recipe for cooking up an entrepreneurial mindset is the Split Tech City Festival. After all, what is a Mediterranean Tech Hub without a conference with a splendid sea view and lots of mind-food for future successes?! That was a rhetorical question. 🙂

From students to seasoned entrepreneurs and experts, the Split Tech City Festival is open to everyone regardless of interests and level of expertise. Every year so far, the people attending it felt welcome, learned interesting things, met new people, and left inspired – and this year will be no different!

So – are you up for joining us in September and seeing all the positives our tech community is building here in Split? We hope you are! 😉

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
