The Culture Hub Croatia team is happy to announce that they’ll be hosting The Mobile School of Visual Arts in Split! 😀

The Mobile School of Visual Arts is an art project based on the idea of art as the production of knowledge and active participation. In these terms, this project is based on the paradox of participatory teaching, namely attempting to define what we do not yet know.

The project was founded in 2022 by artist Stefano Romano and until now has had its editions in Genova, Bergamo, and Tirana.

The Culture Hub Croatia team invites artists and art students to participate in a free workshop led by Stefano Romano. The workshop will take place in Split, from May 6 to 11, resulting in a group exhibition that the general public can enjoy viewing from May 15 to 24 at Prostor.

Not only is the workshop free for all participants, but those who live outside of Split can apply to receive a financial contribution of EUR 250.

Find more information at the Culture Hub Croatia’s website and don’t miss your chance to apply! 🙂

Now, a little bit more about the workshop leader.

Stefano Romano was born in Naples in 1975 and is an artist, curator, and researcher.

He lives and works between Bergamo (Italy) and Tirana (Albania). His artistic practice explores the deep contradictions that lie in our reality, often investigated in relation to architecture, and urban and social contexts.

His approach is based on the idea of the work as a spatio-temporal process that often needs the active participation of the viewer to complete itself. In this way, art projects become conversations that allow for the development of an alternative point of view to the dominant narratives.

The research is then translated into temporary actions, performances, installations, video works, photographs, and drawings.

Stefano obtained a double PhD in architecture at the University of Ferrara (Italy) and Polis University in Tirana (Albania). In the framework of this doctorate, he works as a lecturer in the visual arts courses at Polis University, at the Faculty of Art and Design.

For more than a decade, Stefano has been working in Albania where he initiated several projects as an artist as well as a curator. He ideated the 1.60insurgent space project whose focus was the public space; he was also co-founder of the T.I.C.A. (Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art). In 2012 he was co-founder of the DZT collective (DyZeroTre) and the MAPS – Mobile Archive on Public Space platform.

His latest project is The Mobile School of Visual Arts – a pedagogical project based on the idea of art as the production of knowledge and active participation. His work has been exhibited in many national and international exhibitions in Europe and the United States.

So, don’t miss this opportunity to learn from Stefano right here in Split – head to the Culture Hub Croatia’s website and secure your spot at the workshop!
