GEW2022: Suren’s insights about startups, investment, and success

We wished for it to be the highlight of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week, and it was! 😀

The collaborative meetup with Student Business Incubator with Suren Markosian as the speaker, for sure made us wish these things happened more often in our startup ecosystem. We hosted this little get-together at the BackBar PLAN B.

And over some drinks, Suren guided us through an insightful lecture all the way to an answer to the question posed in its title: “Is investment necessary for startups to succeed in the market?

We heard about investors, who might be good at math, but whose forte is not entrepreneurship. We were introduced to different types of businesses and various types of money.

We were told stories of good positions to be in while negotiating a deal, and those where we only think we have any negotiating power.

All that heavy financial-economic-startup talk went by in a flash and we have only Suren to thank for that!

We’re sure all in attendance learned a lot!

We know for a fact they asked a lot of questions after the lecture was over and those braver even approached our resident entrepreneur to introduce themselves and learn more from him.

And did we answer the key question asked? Yes. It’s “no”. 😀

You might ask why, and we’d have to tell you you had to be there to experience it.

Whatever the case may be, if you missed this meetup, you now have a great opening question for your next networking event: “Hey, did you go to that startup-themed meetup, and can you tell me more about your takeaways?

As for us, well – we had a fabulous time together after Suren’s lecture and the brief presentation of startup-important things in Split such as the Smart City Challenge and Varyence Passport Fund.

And something tells us this might not be the last startup-themed meetup in Split.

After all, we always did like the energy the Student Business Incubator team brings to the table, so why not double it?!

Cheers – to all Split’s entrepreneurs and startups! 😀

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
