Split Tech City is a community composed of well-intentioned and progressive companies, startups, associations, initiatives, institutions and individuals. Together we encourage and develop the IT sector of Split and the surrounding region.
Support our communityOne of our favorite fellow community builders, the Jedna Mladost Association, is back for another academic year of science, tech, and business-related workshops, courses, and clubs for children aged 7 to 18.
Why are they one of our favorites? Well, that’s because many of our younger volunteers are also members of Jedna Mladost and we also collaborate a lot with their co-founder, Michael Freer.
They’re always happy to welcome new young members to attend courses or professionals to run courses and workshops. So, let’s share a little about what they do and maybe you’ll see how you could fit in! 🙂
Jedna Mladost is run by Sanja Kosor, an accountant with her own accounting company, and Michael Freer, a social entrepreneur with his own business.
Aside from being near and dear to us at Split Tech City because of continuous collaboration with the Jedna Mladost youth on projects like the Split Tech City Festival or NEXT Youth Conference, Jedna Mladost has been created with the idea of encouraging young people to learn knowledge and skills they might not necessarily be able to learn at school.
And we’re all for supporting that kind of mindset and proactivity! 😀
Therefore, Sanja and Michael hope to continuously engage others who also understand the importance of this particular mission. Every Saturday in our lovely city of Split, Jedna Mladost runs a variety of different courses tailored for youngsters eager to expand their knowledge and skillset in a variety of different fields.
With courses and clubs about leadership, entrepreneurship, video editing, programming, and graphic design, the Jedna Mladost youngsters have plenty of interesting learning opportunities to choose from!
As always, during the upcoming school year, the Jedna Mladost crew will be running their beginners’ courses in Graphic Design and Become a YouTuber. These run every Saturday for a few months to give young people a taste of what Jedna Mladost is all about.
The young participants will learn the basics of both subjects, where they will make their own visual identities in the Graphic Design course and produce a short video for YouTube during the Become a YouTuber course while working with professionals in both areas.
The news for this academic year is that the hardworking adults behind Jedna Mladost have added a couple of exciting new courses. 😉
They will initiate a Film School which will first get their members to analyze short movies before continuing the course with the participants developing scripts for their own documentaries.
A Green Chemistry class has also been added to the Jedna Mladost roster as a course where younger children carry out experiments including making sweets from chocolate and jewelry from algae. Not to miss is also the FIGMA course for all those budding young designers who want to level up their graphic design skills.
In November the Jedna Mladost team will also start an animation course connecting social inclusion, mathematics, and animation skills as part of their Cartoon.Ed project.
That’s a wrap-up with the courses, but there are also Jedna Mladost clubs! 🙂
The clubs are weekly meetups between members who have a real passion for a certain topic. All Jedna Mladost clubs are project-based: from developing business ideas or creating educational content to working on self-improvement.
The current clubs include Entrepreneurship, YouTuber, Graphic Design by Hand, Programming, and Leadership.
Finally, it’s important to note that, in this day of constant interaction with technology, the entire Jedna Mladost team understands the need to log off and put down the gadgets and devices we’re so attached to.
Therefore, one Saturday every month, they do something completely new and absolutely offline. So far they’ve got a camping trip planned, a day of creativity, a first aid education, and a trip for an eco-workshop. And who knows what else they’ll come up with during this school year!
If all of this sounds fabulous to you (And to us it really does!), the only thing you have to do is – join in the fun!
If you are a professional wishing to share your know-how with future generations, you can always reach out to Michael. And if you are young and enthusiastic about learning new things and developing your skills surrounded by a crowd as great as the Jedna Mladost younglings – contact them about joining a course or two (or three, five, ten)!
We wish Jedna Mladost a lot of success with all their projects and tons of fun learning new things in the upcoming school year! 😀
p.s. We’re looking forward to our continuous collaboration, too! 🙂
