That’s right, you’ve read it correctly. Split’s fabulous social hackathon Hack4Split is looking for you – especially if you are a programmer or a designer!

If you’re not familiar with Hack4Split, allow us to let you know what this hackathon is all about. Hack4Split is a two-day competition aimed at solving social problems and designing social innovations. It brings together individuals with specific knowledge, regardless of education and occupation, who find solutions to problems in their local community, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The competition aims to encourage young people to become active members of their community, to get acquainted with the needs and problems in their community and environment, as well as engage in solving them.

The 5th edition of Hack4Split will be held on April 9th and 10th at the SPINIT Incubator.

Important to note is that this competition is organized by Entrepreneurship Center Split and Student Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics, while the organizers are partnered by Ensoco, Digital Nomad Associaton Croatia, and Split Tech City. This hackathon is also a part of a project funded by the European Solidarity Force and the Central State Office for Demography and Youth.

And while many have already applied for this year’s Hack4Split, some of the teams and individuals are still:

looking for programmers and/or designers!

Some of the specific things you can help solve with your programming or designing skills are:

  • helping to protect and limit overfishing of sea species (SeaID project, Oceanus Association)
  • improving the medical and hospital systems through the systematization of scheduling appointments and surgeries
  • developing an app for all victims of violence (localized, regional)
  • developing an app to offset CO2 emissions through afforestation

Therefore, if you are a programmer or designer interested in sharpening your skills while also improving the life of your local community, don’t wait for someone else to make the world a better place – sign up for Hack4Split via the application link and improve the world together with other Hack4Split applicants.

Applications are open until March 26th, so don’t wait too long, but seize the opportunity and apply for Hack4Split to improve your local community!

Researching is woven into my DNA, but I am a musician at heart. Interested in too many things and always curious. Forever in love with Split and enchanted by people who teach me new things. When I am not creating content about Split's tech community, you will find me in singing rehearsals, somewhere in nature, in the theater, or with my head stuck in a book. I do my best to live by the verse from the opera "Fedora" by Umberto Giordano: "Love forbids you not to love."
